Water is Essential
Are you a fan of sweet beverages? Unfortunately, our human body craves sugar but in actuality all it really needs is water. Water is essential for life because your body literally depends on it. Have you heard of the saying that you can last 30 days without food but only 3 days without water? That adage is actually true and based on really good science. 60% of our bodies are made of water and our body uses it in our cells, organs and tissues to do a variety of tasks like regulate our body temperature.
Your body is constantly losing water especially if you live in a hot climate like in Thailand. It’s losing it through your breathing, sweating and digesting food. How much water you need really depends on your own body. But on average, a person would need about 1.5 liters of water a day. That’s not including other liquids you consume. A common way to tell if your body is well hydrated is looking at the colour of your urine. If it’s clear or pale yellow, it means you’re well hydrated. If it’s a deep yellow, you need to drink more and if it’s dark yellow or brown, you need to see a doctor.
Water protects our body’s joints, tissues and bones because it keeps those body parts moist and lubricated which is critical to their function. It’s also important for removing toxins from the body through your urine. If you’re not drinking enough water, your kidneys could shut down from all the toxins that’s trapped in them.
And the number one reason to drink more water is to prevent dehydration. Once you’re dehydrated, things can go south fast! So the next time you order a drink, why not have a bottle of water? It’s the only drink you really need!
